NABLUS, (PIC)-- Hamas on Sunday denounced the PA in Ramallah for repeating statements about a Hamas coup in the West Bank to justify its confiscation of funds allocated for families of martyrs and prisoners.

Hamas, in a press release, said that the latest statements by Fatah and PA officials in Ramallah about Hamas plot to target PA leaders were "sheer lies".

It said that alleged confessions of Hamas cadres were taken under duress, noting that Hamas did not direct its weapons against those officials despite the persecution of its cadres and supporters in the West Bank over the past two years that claimed the lives of 10 Hamas members while thousands were thrown in jails.

For his part, Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, one of the Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip, described the Ramallah confiscation of charity money as "moral degradation".

Adnan Al-Dameeri, the spokesman of the West Bank security apparatuses, claimed that his apparatuses succeeded in seizing 8.5 million dollars from Hamas members in the West Bank that were being used for building a security apparatus for the Movement in the West Bank in preparation for a coup against the Ramallah authority.

Abu Zuhri underlined that those funds were allocated for families of martyrs and prisoners and were intentionally looted by former PA chief "(Mahmoud) Abbas's militias".

The idea of planning and staging a coup in the West Bank is baseless and "silly", the spokesman underlined, adding that Hamas is a resistance movement that only targets occupation.

He opined that the timing of the statement aimed at justifying the Ramallah authority's rejection of ending the political detention file in the West Bank.

Qassam denies intention to establish security apparatus in West Bank

GAZA, (PIC)-- Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, categorically denied it has intentions to establish a security apparatus in the West Bank as alleged by spokesman of the Fatah-controlled security apparatuses Adnan Al-Dameeri.

The Brigades spokesman Abu Obeida stressed that Dameeri’s remarks represent the personal and official position of US officer Keith Dayton who is in charge of the PA "militia" in the West Bank.

“The West Bank gangs insist on hunting the resistance [fighters] and confiscating the weapons and funds they use to confront the occupation in addition to closing all institutions linked to the resistance movements, even if it is a charity or an orphanage,” Abu Obeida said.

Dameeri claimed that the PA security apparatuses had confiscated 8.5 million dollars from a Hamas cell intended for establishing a security apparatus in the West Bank in addition to weapons and explosives.

For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Ramahi, the secretary-general of the Palestinian legislative council, said that these remarks are unfounded and aimed to justify the abduction of Hamas cadres in the West Bank, adding that Dameeri also wants to abort the national dialog and re-assure the Israeli occupation authority that the PA security apparatuses are fully committed to the roadmap plan.

“We heard such statements repeatedly before and after the Oslo agreements and they were proved on the ground to be false and unsubstantiated,” Dr. Ramahi underlined.

He also accused Dameeri of coercing Hamas prisoners into withdrawing their personal savings from banks, saying that the money allegedly confiscated by the PA security apparatuses does not belong to Hamas.

The lawmaker predicted that Dameeri would broadcast fabricated videotaped confessions made under pressure by Hamas members in order to justify the security campaigns waged by the PA security apparatuses in the West Bank.
