Qaradawi: Visiting Jerusalem under occupation is religiously prohibited

CAIRO, (PIC)-- Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradawi, the head of the international union for Muslim scholars (IUMS), stated Tuesday that apart from the Palestinians, the Muslims' visits to occupied Jerusalem are religiously proscribed as long as Palestine is under occupation.

"Giving visas for non-Palestinians means cooperation with and recognition of an illegitimate entity. The Muslims must feel they are deprived of Jerusalem in order to move to defend it," Sheikh Qaradawi said during the opening session on Jerusalemite studies organized by the union of Arab doctors in Cairo.

The IUMS head stressed in his speech the importance of spreading the Jerusalemite culture in all Arab and Muslim countries.

He accused the Arab regimes of containing the "Zionist entity" in the region through their political decisions that helped to perpetuate its existence, and criticized the Arab media for propagating the idea of coexistence with the Zionists.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Subeih, the assistant Arab League secretary-general for Palestinian affairs, said that Jerusalem is exposed to the most dangerous Judaization schemes that are aimed to erase its historical identity and its holy shrines, and slammed the Arab regimes for their passivity towards Israel's escalating violations in the holy city.
