Named "Turning Point 5," the exercise involves testing entity-wide siren systems and the cellular network, distributing emergency kits, improving coordination and practicing evacuation and shelter procedures.. Sirens will sound in cities and towns across the entity later this week, as Israeli security and rescue forces practice for various scenarios. A siren will be heard at 11 A.M. on Wednesday and again at 7 P.M. the same day, at which point civilians will be requested to retreat to their closest shelters as part of an evacuation drill.
For the first time, lawmakers will also be called on to participate in response to a simulated attack on the parliament building in Jerusalem, along with the defense establishment simulating a scenario in which hundreds of missile strike locations across the entity. Some 80 municipalities will be taking part, along with the military, police, fire service and emergency services. The military's “Home Front Command” will also test an emergency SMS service during the exercise, IOF sources said. Speaking on army radio on Sunday, Israel's home front defense minister Matan Vilnai cautioned that “we must prepare... because they (enemies of the Zionist entity) have the capacity to fire missiles and rockets at all of our territory." According to Vilnai, gas masks have been distributed to 60 percent of the population and the rest should receive the protection by next year. |
IOF to train Israelis in largest missile drill yetOCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Israeli occupation force (IOF) began a five-day drill on Sunday morning that will include all rescue forces as well as the educational institutions, ministries and some 80 local authorities.
Israeli radio reported that the drill conducted by the Home Front Command is slated to train for dealing with various scenarios of attack. On Wednesday, sirens will be heard throughout Israel.
The drill includes a scenario where Israel goes under attack of hundreds of missiles daily.
It is considered the largest of its kind, with participation from 80 local authorities and seventy percent of the population living in their boundaries.
The Israeli National Emergency Management Authority was established in 2006 after the Home Front Command was found to be weak in several locations along the border with Lebanon, prompting Israel to evacuate hundreds of thousands of Israelis to the central and southern areas.
On the fourth day of the drill, sirens will be sounded in the morning and evening. When the first goes off, workers and students will practice taking cover in shelters. The second will alarm when Israelis would be and their homes to practice using shelters and safe rooms in their their homes and they would be alerted by messages to their mobile phones.
