A prominent Iranian MP has warned Turkey its NATO missile shield will be among the first targets hit if Iran is attacked, Fars news agency reported on Tuesday.
Hossein Ebrahimi, Vice-Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said in an interview with the Iranian Sharq newspaper that an Iranian strike on NATO targets in Turkey is a "natural right."

"In the case of an attack against us, defending is our natural right," Ebrahimi said.
The latest Iranian warnings reinforce earlier statements by a high-ranking general denouncing Turkey's NATO shield as "a cover for the Zionist regime."

"We are sure that the missile system is deployed by the US for the sake of the Zionist regime, but to deceive the world people, especially the Turkish people, they allege that the system belongs to NATO," General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said last month.

The general also cautioned that preparations were in place for a hit on Turkey in the case of an attack on Iran.

"We have prepared ourselves, if any threat is staged against Iran, we will target NATO's missile shield in Turkey and will then attack other targets," Hajizadeh said in November.

Iran strongly opposes the deployment of a NATO missile shield in Turkey, claiming it is targeting the Islamic republic in light of heightened tensions with the West over Tehran's nuclear program.
Iranian leaders have urged Turkey to rescind on the plan and opt out of the shield, a move Ankara has thus far rejected.

Western powers and Israel accuse Iran of seeking a nuclear weapon, a charge Iran strongly denies.
Tehran maintains its nuclear program is purely for civilian purposes.
