Colonel Muammar Gaddafi killed so his secrets would die with him, the prime minister of Libya said on Monday.

Mahmoud Jibril, a senior figure in the National Transitional Council (NTC) as they overthrew Gaddafi's 42-year rein, said he regretted not taking Gaddafi alive to interrogate and put on trial.

Gaddafi was killed in October 20111 in unclear circumstances after a joint attack by rebels and allied NATO forces on loyalists in his home town of Sirte after months of stronghold.

Video footage showed he had been captured alive but he was shot in the subsequent hours.
The NTC say they did not give an order to kill Gaddafi and Jibril said many parties would have been interested in killing him.

“I would love to know who was behind Colonel Gaddafi’s killing,” he said.

“Too many parties [had] real interests that Gaddafi [didn't] talk, that he should be silenced forever,” said Jibril in an interview with RT.
