Serious Contradictions Observed in US Attitude towards Terrorism

Iranian Deputy FM: Serious Contradictions Observed in US Attitude towards Terrorism

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian underlined that Tehran is suspicious of the US position and approach on terrorism.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran observes serious contradictions in the intention of the US and its allies on the Syrian issue and war on terrorism and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the region," Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting with Japanese Foreign Ministry Director General for Political Affairs Tsukasa Yomura in Tehran on Sunday.
He also referred to the situation in Syria and the necessity for finding a political solution which would include the new realities on the ground in Syria, and stressed Iran's readiness to help start a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

The Japanese official, for his part, underscored Iran's important role in the regional developments, and said Japan attaches much importance to consultations with Tehran to find a proper solution to the regional crises.

He described instability in the Middle-East region as a threat to the whole world, and said, "The crisis-hit countries of the Middle-East region should receive support in restoring stability and security for their citizens."

This is not the first time Iranian officials, including Amir Abdollahian, are speaking of their suspicions about the goals of the US-led coalition against ISIL.

In September and in a meeting with the Kenyan parliament's National Security and Foreign Relations Commission Chairman Mohammad Yusuf Haji in Tehran, Amir Abdollahian said, "Since the very first day of the crisis in Syria, we have told the westerners that supporting terrorism threatens the global security, and that Al-Qaeda-affiliated groups have grown more professional after over a decade of terrorist operations in Afghanistan and Iraq."

"They can carry out dangerous terrorist operations in any part of the world and the Americans have now understood this and have called for cooperation with Iran, but we are suspicious of their intention for campaigning terrorism," he added.
